Crumb Cake


1 1/2 c. all-purpose flour
3 tsp. baking powder
1/2 c. sugar
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tbsp. shortening
1/2 tsp. vanilla
1/2 c. milk
1 well beaten egg
Sift together dry ingredients. Mix in shortening and add egg, milk and vanilla. Let stand.
CRUMBS:
1 lb. butter brought to room temperature
4 c. flour
2 c. sugar
Pinch of salt
2 tbsp. cinnamon
Mix together dry ingredients. Cut in butter until large crumbs form. Spread cake batter in an ungreased jelly roll pan. Use a rubber spatula. Sprinkle with crumbs. Bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes. Sprinkle with powdered sugar and serve in squares.
